Like a down-market Jerry Lewis, Williams bumbles his way through the first manned flight to Mars in Rocketman as computer nerd-turned-replacement astronaut Fred Z. Randall. He sneezes up slime in his helmet, has gas attacks in his space suit, and somehow still wins the heart of the comedy mission scientist (Lundy). Williams’ high jinks are generally juvenile enough to keep preteens enthralled on a rainy day; captive parents might actually be impressed by how unabashedly goofy this big geek is. Someday, with better material, he could become a first-class clown.
