I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

Those eager to bury the nouveau horror can use this junky slash-by-numbers sequel as a gravestone. A dearth of originality finds the first film’s survivors, Julie (Hewitt) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.), again battling the hook-wielding, slow-as-molasses fisherman/killer, this time on a stormy tropical island (for that Key Largo feeling and an abundance of wet tees). The shrill heroines scream, the story is basically hide-and-seek, and what seemed a smart, fresh revival three years ago with Scream appears to have devolved faster than usual; now teens are just thrown into the villain’s path like so much chum. But as surely as I Still Know What You Did Last Summer has false endings, the genre will never die, despite dreck like this. D-
