Small screen stars hit the stage

Prefer your TV stars in 3-D? You’re in luck. Many a prime-time player has opted for the good old-fashioned stage this summer. A sampling of the theatrics:

Party of Five‘s Scott Wolf took over for Christian Slater last month in Warren Leight’s Side Man, the story of a troubled jazz musician. ”I did Far East in Williamstown last summer and loved it,” says Wolf.

Friends‘ David Schwimmer hits the boards in Glimmer Brothers — also by Leight, also about jazzmen.

Dawson’s Creek‘s Michelle Williams plays a white-trash babe in Killer Joe. ”It’s really kicking my ass,” she says of the demanding schedule. ”But in an excellent way!”

Ally McBeal‘s Calista Flockhart plays different characters — a latter-day Medea among them — in Bash, a series of three one-acts by Neil LaBute (Your Friends & Neighbors).

The Practice‘s Lisa Gay Hamilton stars in Angelique, the story of an 18th-century slave in Canada.

3rd Rock From the Sun‘s Wayne Knight moonlights in the coming-of-middle-age drama Art. ”It’s like being a trapeze artist,” he says. ”It’s exhilarating when you’re on stage, but when you are away from it you go, ‘What the hell was I thinking?”’
