There's trouble on the ''Snoops'' set

Can the ''Ally McBeal'' creator also run this new private-eye show?

David E. Kelley’s new drama about female private eyes, ”Snoops,” is seeing a little behind-the-scenes drama. Executive producer Rob Thomas has left the show, which only recently started production. Thomas apparently was not thrilled when Kelley, who had said he was going to be hands off when it came to ”Snoops,” decided he wanted to be hands on.

ABC is still retooling the pilot for the Gina Gershon-Paula Marshall series. All the network has sent the press so far is a preview tape of the show. If Kelley is serious about doing all the writing on ”Snoops,” one has to wonder how he’ll manage to continue to keep a tight watch over his other shows, ”Ally McBeal” and ”The Practice” — not to mention ”Chicago Hope,” which he is also getting more involved with than he had been previously. Pray he doesn’t catch a cold.
