Ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl’s combo deals in streamlined alt-power-pop, and their third album is their most accomplished yet. Medium-heavy tunes like ”Learn to Fly” and ”Breakout” are sleekly crafted and lyrically resonant, while the sly ”Stacked Actors” and the Badfinger-esque ”Ain’t It the Life” reveal a sensitive streak that meshes nicely with Grohl’s more aggressive inclinations.
