The '80s make a comeback

The '80s make a comeback--From fashion (fishnets) to movies (''American Psycho''), the decade of decadence has a modern-day presence

Dust off your Depeche Mode records and paint the town hot pink. Y2K is suddenly looking like 1982.

Nostalgia
Reaganomics and Oliver North notwithstanding, a lot of people are suddenly yearning for the good old days of heavy metal and acid-washed jeans. Boiler Room‘s greed-is-gooders quote Wall Street like wiseguys quote The Godfather. Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston will star in Metal God, a comedy about ’80s rock culture, while Bret Easton Ellis, the voice of the decade of decadence, rejoins the pop culture conversation with American Psycho.

Fashion
It was only a matter of time before big shoulder pads and neon brights would be style-recycled. But leg warmers? Givenchy’s got ’em — in leather. Fishnets, Madonna wannabe must-haves, are now paired with Prada. Even Jennifer Beals’ sweatshirt from Flashdance is being reenvisioned — by Giorgio Armani, no less. The Mullet: Hairstyle of the Gods pays homage to the ‘do favored by the likes of Nick Rhodes and Patrick Swayze.

Familiar Faces
Tiffany, Duran Duran, and Run-DMC are set to drop comeback albums this year. Mohawked muscleman Mr. T is a new author (Cancer Saved My Life) and actor (Malcolm & Eddie). And The Dukes of Hazzard reunites on CBS this May. Can Daisy Duke-style short-shorts be far behind?
