Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s grooviest score, still offers almost nonstop quasi-rock bliss, but it’s done few favors by this predictable revival. JCS can rise or fall on its Judas, but instead of a tortured ideologue we get a smarmy Billy Idol look-alike sexually harassing Mary Magdalene. The modern-dress, grunge-glitz staging is equally self-consciously cynical. C+
