The inside scoop on the book world

BOOK START They’ve had their brush with fame as the subjects of the acclaimed documentary Startup.com, which portrays the rise and fall of the Internet site govWorks.com. But now the two cofounders of the failed enterprise, Kaleil Isaza Tuzman and Tom Herman, want the world to know even more about what went wrong. They’re working on a book together…maybe. ”It’s not entirely clear what’s happening,” says Herman, whose firing by Isaza Tuzman was one of the more dramatic scenes in the film (the two have since healed their rift). ”I don’t know if [the book] will have both [our] names,” says Isaza Tuzman, who has been meeting with publishers (without Herman) about the book, The Seven Sins of Early Entrepreneurship. ”Either way,” he adds, ”it’ll recognize [Herman’s] contributions.” Whether Isaza Tuzman gets a book deal or not, readers can learn more about govWorks.com from Philip Kaplan, creator of the website F — -ed Company. He’s just made a low-six-figure deal with Simon & Schuster to write a ”dotcom Babylon, a chronicle of the Internet mania,” says Geoff Kloske, the senior editor who acquired the as-yet-untitled book. It will be out in January.

FLYING OFF THE SHELVES Harry Potter fans hungry for their next fix may have quite a wait: No. 5 isn’t even scheduled yet. But Scholastic isn’t about to let you forget the boy wizard. With some help from Warner Bros., the company is planning to celebrate Harry’s birthday — and coincidentally, his author’s — with the July 31 publication of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Movie Poster Book. There may not be a lot to read — in fact, there won’t be anything to read — but the book will feature 15 detachable full-color posters, each featuring a scene from the upcoming movie version of the book. ”It’s the first sneak peek of the movie,” says Scholastic spokesperson Kristen Moran.
