Set in 1962 Hong Kong, Wong Kar-Wai’s languorously romantic In the Mood for Love is much like its stylish heroine, Mrs. Chan (Maggie Cheung): ravishing, yet rather sad. Mrs. Chan and her equally lonely next-door neighbor, Mr. Chow (Tony Leung), learn that their spouses are unfaithful and initiate a clandestine affair. Their progress is slow — and so is the movie. But Wong’s smooth direction, Christopher Doyle’s alluring cinematography, and the melancholy music sustain this wistful ”Mood.”
