Greg Osby: Symbols of Light (A Solution)

Over the last few years, saxist-idea man Osby has been the most consistently provocative of major-label jazz artists, the kind of chance taker we need more of. He outdoes himself here, with intricate arrangements for his regular quartet (key player: pianist Jason Moran) and an added string quartet. Echoes of Henry Threadgill’s chamber-jazz style can be detected at times, but something new and special this way comes too.
