''Dirty Dancing 2'' is on the way

''Dirty Dancing 2'' is on the way. The project will be a remake rather than a direct sequel

A sequel to 1987’s perennially popular ”Dirty Dancing” is coming, but original stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey shouldn’t get too excited. The movie, to be called ”Havana Nights,” will use new characters in a plot inspired by the original movie, according to Variety. Think of it as a ”re-imagining,” like Tim Burton’s ”Planet of the Apes”; this version of ”Dirty Dancing” will take place in Havana, Cuba, in 1959, instead of the original setting of a Jewish resort in the Catskills, Variety reports

Like the original, ”Havana Nights” will revolve around a 17-year-old girl who rejects her family’s values when she falls in love with a (presumably way cute) dancer. Names including Natalie Portman and Ricky Martin have been mentioned as potential stars for the new movie, according to Variety. TV director Guy Ferland, who’s worked on ”The Shield” and ”Ed,” will direct. Maybe Swayze and Grey can play the parents.
