Nelly, 'N Sync get Teen Choice kudos

For a while, Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards looked like Nellyville. The rapper, who performed with his St. Lunatics at the ceremony, won three awards, more than any other individual at the awards show honoring teen favorites in music, movies, and TV. His ”Hot in Herre” was names Choice Song of the Summer, while ”Girlfriend,” his collaboration with ‘N Sync, was named Choice Hook Up and Choice Single. Tying ‘N Sync with two awards was Usher, recognized for Choice Love Song (”U Got It Bad”) and as Choice R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap Artist. And Ja Rule picked up two prizes as well, for Choice Male Artist and Choice R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap Single (”Ain’t It Funny,” his duet with Jennifer Lopez).

In movies, the awards included some whimsical categories even the MTV Movie Awards doesn’t recognize, including Choice Movie Your Parents Didn’t Want You to See (”American Pie 2,” which also won Choice Movie Comedy) and Choice Movie Hissy Fit (Ben Stiller in ”Zoolander”). ”Spider-Man” was cited three times, for Choice Action Adventure Movie, Choice Action Adventure Actor (Tobey Maguire), and Choice Lip Lock (the famous upside-down kiss between Maguire and Kirsten Dunst). Mandy Moore’s work in ”A Walk to Remember” earned her Choice Breakout Performance and Choice Chemistry (with costar Shane West).

On TV, voters showed Joey the love by naming Matt LeBlanc Choice TV Comedy Actor and ”Friends” Choice TV Comedy. Similarly, voters recognized ”7th Heaven” and star Barry Watson in the TV Drama categories and ”The Osbournes” and Choice Breakout TV Star (Female) Kelly Osbourne among reality shows. Sarah Michelle Gellar won awards for her dramatic work on ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and her comedic work in the film ”Scooby-Doo,” and ”Buffy”’s Alyson Hannigan was named Choice TV Sidekick.

The fourth annual Teen Choice Awards, whose winners were picked by readers of Seventeen magazine, was taped at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. It will air on Fox on Aug. 19. Other major awards are listed below.
