''Raymond'' and ''Greek Wedding'' top People's Choice nods

What’s your favorite TV comedy? Your favorite recent movie? According to the pollsters at the Gallup organization, your favorite sitcom is probably ”Friends” or ”Everybody Loves Raymond,” and your favorite recent flick is probably ”Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” or ”My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” Those are the shows and films that earned the most nominations for the Gallup-driven People’s Choice Awards, as announced Wednesday at a Los Angeles press conference hosted by Jami Gertz and Mark Addy of CBS’ ”Still Standing.” (Alas, no nominations for them or their program.)

”Friends” and ”Raymond” are up against each other for three awards, including Favorite Television Comedy Series, Favorite Male Television Performer (Matt LeBlanc vs. Ray Romano) and Favorite Female Television Performer (Jennifer Aniston vs. Patricia Heaton). ”The Bernie Mac Show” got two nods (Favorite New Television Comedy Series and Favorite Male Television Performer), as did ”Will & Grace” (Favorite Television Comedy Series, and Favorite Female Television Performer for Debra Messing).

In movies, ”Fellowship” and ”Greek Wedding” led the nominees and are facing off against each other for Favorite Motion Picture; the Hobbits are also up for Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture, while Nia Vardalos’ Cinderella story is up for Favorite Comedy Motion Picture. Mel Gibson is a candidate for Favorite Motion Picture Actor, as ”Signs” is for Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture.

In musical categories, the wealth was spread across hip-hop (Eminem, Nelly), pop (Celine Dion, ‘N Sync), and country (Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks). The winners will be named in a ceremony hosted by Tony Danza on CBS on Jan. 12. A full list of nominees is below.
