Norah Jones tops the album chart after 46 weeks

You call that a boost? The week after the Grammy nominations, everyone expected multiple nominees like Norah Jones to see their album sales rise. To be sure, Jones’ ”Come Away With Me” finally did rise to the top of the Billboard album chart, after a 46-week climb, but it sold 10,000 copies less than last week, for a total of 108,000, according to SoundScan. None of the other multiply nominated artists — Avril Lavigne, Eminem, Dixie Chicks — had a good sales week either. In fact, there was only one disc (”Come Away”) that broke into six-figure sales this week, the first time that’s happened in more than a year.

Non-nominated Jennifer Lopez’s ”This Is Me…Then” rose four spots to No. 2 but sold just 88,000 copies. Lavigne’s ”Let Go” held on to third place (83,000 sold), and the Dixie Chicks’ ”Home” remained at No. 4 (79,000 copies). Last week’s No. 1, Eminem’s ”8 Mile” soundtrack, dropped to fifth place on sales of 75,000.

Missy Elliott’s ”Under Construction” reentered the top 10, moving three places to No. 8. Other top-10 releases included Justin Timberlake’s ”Justified” (No. 6) and Shania Twain’s ”Up!” (No. 7), both up one notch. Aaliyah’s ”I Care 4 U” held at No. 9, and Christina Aguilera’s ”Stripped” slipped five slots to 10th place.
