James Garner becomes ''Rules'' regular

James Garner becomes ''Rules'' regular. The veteran actor has signed on to play Grandpa Jim for the full season of ''8 Simple Rules''

James Garner will keep on setting new rules for the Hennessy family. The star, who originally signed to guest-star as Grandpa Jim in four episodes of ABC’s ”8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter,” has now agreed to appear in the full season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Garner’s role as the father of Katey Sagal’s character fills a gap left by the late John Ritter, who played the family patriarch.

Garner fell on the set of the show last week, suffering a severely bruised hip, but will return on Jan. 5 for more filming, according to the Reporter. In new episodes, the 75-year-old will appear with David Spade, a temporary addition to the show’s cast. Spade will play yet another Hennessy relative — the annoying one, no doubt.
