He Who Must Not Be Named can now be named. Harry Potter’s nemesis Lord Voldemort, whose name most of the characters fear to utter, and whose disembodied spirit terrorizes Harry and his Hogwarts cohorts in the first three installments of the series, finally appears in the flesh in ”Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” In the movie, he’ll appear in the form of Ralph Fiennes. The casting of Fiennes, who played thoroughly chilling villains in ”Red Dragon” and ”Schindler’s List,” had been rumored for some time, but Warner Bros. didn’t confirm it until Wednesday, more than a month after director Mike Newell began shooting.

Also announced Wednesday was the long-rumored casting of Miranda Richardson (”Sleepy Hollow,” ”The Crying Game”) as Rita Skeeter, the nasty, gossipy reporter for the Daily Prophet. Richardson, who costarred with Fiennes two years ago in David Cronenberg’s creepy drama ”Spider,” made her film debut in the starring role of real-life killer Ruth Ellis in Newell’s ”Dance with a Stranger” in 1985. They join such newcomers to the Potter saga as ”Troy”’s Brendan Gleeson (as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Mad-Eye Moody) and young Scottish actress Katie Leung (as Harry’s love interest, Cho Chang). The film is due in November 2005.
