Think Glenn Close is scary? Wait ’til you see her next season on The Shield. Variety reports that she’ll play Monica Rawling, the new precinct captain and boss to Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) and company. Close will appear in all 13 episodes of the FX police drama during the fourth season, which premieres next spring. The FX gig marks the multiple Oscar nominee’s first regular TV series role, though Simpsons fans will recall her occasional guest spots as Homer’s mom.

Close’s character ”shakes our Shield world upside down over the course of the entire season,” series creator Shawn Ryan said. Her character will empower the rule-bending Mackey to enforce her controversial community policies — we assume this means something a little more divisive than keeping kids off the street with after-school basketball games. ”We wouldn’t have been comfortable pursuing this storyline if we hadn’t gotten an actress of Glenn’s undeniable abilities,” Ryan said.
