Meryl Streep will star in ''The Devil Wears Prada''

Meryl Streep will star in ''The Devil Wears Prada.'' The Oscar winner will play a fearsome fashion editor in the big-screen version of the best-selling novel

Maybe the devil has an interesting accent too. That could be one reason Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has signed on to star in the couture-set comedy The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 best-selling novel about the struggles of an assistant to a high-powered fashion-magazine editor.

Streep will play Miranda Priestly, who is thought to be based on chic Vogue editrix Anna Wintour — mainly because Weisberger once worked as one of Wintour’s minions. Whether Streep’s performance will be as terrifying as her turn as Eleanor Shaw in The Manchurian Candidate, however, remains to be seen.
