How 'Twilight' turned us on to AA Bondy's 'Vampyre' blues

I really enjoyed the Twilight movie — yes, me, an adult male, sorry, haters — which led me to catch up on the first season of HBO’s True Blood over Thanksgiving weekend. As Jean and many of you have already noted, that show got a lot better after the first few eps. Anyway, what I’m trying to say here is, I am now craving further undead-themed entertainment like a vampire who’s been locked in a cellar with nothing to slurp for weeks. Good thing blogger Carly Carioli over at my old stomping grounds, The Boston Phoenix, has brought my attention to “Oh the Vampyre,” an unreleased cut from alt-country dude AA Bondy. (Check out a live clip below, or download a clearer acoustic take from Bondy’s Daytrotter session.) It’s a sweet, sorrowful love song about vampires and their troubled hearts — perfect! And even if it weren’t, it would still be a pretty great tune. The Phoenix is recommending “Oh the Vampyre” for a spot in the closing credits of True Blood next season. I hope you’ll join me in whole-heartedly agreeing. HBO, listen up!
