'Star Trek' writer sues over 1967 episode

Star Trek writer Harlan Ellison is suing CBS Paramount over the episode “City on the Edge of Forever,” claiming the company didn’t pay him for merchandising, publishing, and other “exploitations” resulting from his teleplay, according to Variety. His suit, filed Friday in federal court in Los Angeles, also accuses the Writers Guild of America for failing to act on his behalf, though he’s asking for only $1 in damages, plus attorneys’ fees and court costs, from the guild. He’s seeking unspecified performance, compensatory, consequential and punitive damages from CBS Paramount for allegedly failing to notify him about the Crucible trilogy of books (which came out in 2006-07) based on the April 1967 episode, which was about time travel and starred Joan Collins.
