A 'MacGruber' movie: Worst idea ever?

MacGruber? Will Forte’s MacGuyver-inspired SNL character who never manages to stop the ticking bomb in time? Well, he’s getting his own movie, according to Forte, who told Jimmy Fallon that he’s finished co-writing a script with The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone and has Kristen Wiig on board for the project.

Is anyone else a little worried about this? MacGruber seems like the epitome of a one-joke character, even more so than the leads in famous SNL-to-film flops like The Ladies Man (2000) and It’s Pat (1994). And even though Forte started adding extra dimensions to the faux action hero in his later sketches (like the clip below with Shia LaBeouf), the basics of MacGruber have stayed the same: He tries to defuse the bomb, gets distracted with something, and then blows up. I’m not sure I want to see two hours of that. But if you take that joke out, what’s left?

What do you think, PopWatchers? Could MacGruber: The Movie actually be good? What’s their best bet to making this work? Or is it just a time bomb waiting to blow up yet another post SNL career?
