The Wedding Girl

Madeline Wickham doesn’t hide behind her Sophie Kinsella (Confessions of a Shopaholic) pen name this time around, but her lighthearted tone and penchant for ditzy, flawed female characters are plain to see. In The Wedding Girl, Flighty 28-year-old Milly Havill is set to marry Simon Pinnacle, a charming millionaire mogul’s son. But just days before they’re about to tie the knot, a rather embarrassing secret from Milly’s long ago past threatens to derail the whole affair. While Wickham does throw in a few unexpected twists, her damsel-in- distress tale becomes bloated with too many preposterous story lines. And the resolution comes straight out of Chick Lit 101. C+
