'The Hills' exclusive: Series finale in sight

Final 12 episodes begin April 27

After six seasons of sex-tape rumors, Les Deux drama, and couture-filled trips to Paris, MTV and Hills producers have decided it’s time for the sun to set on the reality phenom. ”I think we’ve told the story of struggle and of finding yourself in L.A.,” creator Adam DiVello tells EW. ”A lot of these kids have found themselves and have certainly embarked on different careers and different paths.” None more so than Heidi Montag, who premieres her much-discussed plastic-surgery results to her mother on camera in the first episode back (airing April 27). ”It’s a really touching but heartbreaking scene to watch,” promises executive producer Liz Gateley. In the final 12 episodes, fans can expect to see Audrina Patridge dating singer Ryan Cabrera and Kristin Cavallari dealing with rumors of drug abuse. But will former star Lauren Conrad return for the big goodbye? Maybe. DiVello promises a satisfying conclusion to the drama that started in Laguna Beach — though there’s one ending fans shouldn’t hold out for: ”I always joked it would be nice to see Lauren get married.”
