Cowabunga! Michael Bay to revive 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

Image Credit: Everett CollectionIn case you needed further proof that no franchise — no matter how ridiculous or festooned with pizza — is safe from Hollywood resurrection, Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, has signed on to reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The news, first reported by Deadline and confirmed by EW, comes on the heels of Bay’s headline-making casting call for a replacement for Megan Fox in the Hasbro-inspired Transformers 3. (Clearly the guy has a thing for ’80s and ’90s cultural flotsom…what’s next, Cabbage Patch Kids: The Movie?)

Paramount and Nickelodeon reportedly shelled out $60 million for the TMNT franchise and brought it to Bay’s company in the hopes that his knack for kickstarting seemingly dead movie properties (see: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror) would once again unlock the secrets of The Ooze and reignite the star-power of ninja-trained crime-fighters Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello (voiced in the 1990 movie by Corey Feldman). And while, in theory, we’re all for any potential employment opportunity for Mr. Feldman, we’re not so sure about this one.
