Fall TV Preview: Smallville

Returning Drama, Friday 8-9PM, The CW

A slew of old faves will be descending on Smallville for the Superman drama’s 10th and final season, such as John Schneider (Jonathan), John Glover (Lionel), James Marsters (Brainiac), and Laura Vandervoort (Kara/Supergirl). Meanwhile, the two most wanted alums — Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana) — continue to elude producers. ”We’ve done everything in our power to get Kristin and Michael back,” sighs exec producer Brian Peterson. Peterson has enough other tricks up his sleeve to satisfy fans, including ”one huge Lois [Erica Durance] and Clark [Tom Welling] moment” in each of the first eight episodes, a worthy season-long big bad in Darkseid, and a fulfilling wrap-up for Chloe (Allison Mack, who’s back for a handful of episodes). Peterson says the final chapter will find Clark facing the ghosts of his past so he ”can be the hero he’s going to be” in the final episode. Is that just a cryptic way of saying the show’s original ”no flights, no tights” moratorium is about to be lifted? Teases Peterson: ”We all know how the Superman legend ends.” SEPT. 24
