'Paranormal Activity 3' to spook movie-goers on Oct. 21, 2011

Paranormal Activity seems to be taking a (bloody) page from the Saw series: The low-budget horror franchise has scheduled its third film for Oct. 21, 2011, nearly one year after the release of Paranormal Activity 2. With that move, Paramount seems to be establishing the franchise as an annual event scheduled to scare movie-goers each Halloween. The studio could not release any other details about Paranormal Activity 3, but is likely hoping for continued box office success over the years: The second film, released this past October, has raked in $82 million, while the first Paranormal — released in 2009 — proved to be a surprise hit, scaring up nearly $108 million and beating Saw VI during its opening weekend, thanks to a clever grass-roots campaign.
