David Arquette exclusive: 'Scream 4' director Wes Craven says the actor 'was in a lot of pain'

Image Credit: Richard Shotwell/PR Photos; Inset: Chris Hatcher/PhotosScream 4 director Wes Craven is busy finishing up post-production on the newest installment in the horror franchise, due in theaters April 15, but he says he’s not concerned about star David Arquette’s recently announced trip to rehab or Arquette’s separation from wife and co-star Courteney Cox affecting either actors’ plans to promote the movie. Says Craven, “Those are both very professional people. I’m glad to hear that David is going into rehab. I saw him a little bit more because he was present during more of the shoot than Courteney. He was in a lot of pain, so it’s good that he’s getting some help.” The director adds that the star couple’s split surprised even him. “Frankly, none of us knew anything was going on [during filming],” says Craven. “I don’t know what their problems are, but it’s not that they hate each other that’s for sure. It’s something else.”
