Who should play the teen version of Carrie Bradshaw?

When you think of a teenage Sarah Jessica Parker, images of Square Pegs and the original Footloose immediately come to mind But, now that The Carrie Diaries, the prequel to Sex and the City, is officially in the works, we'll have to try and re-think how we see young SJP.

As EW reported earlier today, HBO is currently shopping around (so Carrie of them) to find a home for the small screen adaptation of Candace Bushnell's best-seller that follows Miss Bradshaw through her senior year of high school, a time long before Manolo and Mr. Big came into the picture.

While the series could end up over at The CW, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) as potential producers, the bigger looming question mark is: Who would play the iconic Carrie? While the idea of filling Parker's sky-high shoes seems like a nearly impossibly feat (she is Carrie Bradshaw), unless they can get the actress to pull some sort of Benjamin Button and return to looking like an 18-year-old, a casting decision must be made.

Since talk of a Carrie Diaries series began floating around a few months now, the rumor mill has continually brought up one name: Gossip Girl star Blake Lively. Lively certainly has the pedigree to play Carrie after years of playing a blond, fashionable Manhattanite on GG. (Not to mention the fact that it would team up Lively with Schwartz and Savage.) Lively, however, is one of the most sought-after actresses in the biz, thanks to her turn in The Town, so it's not guaranteed she'd even be available — or willing — to play Carrie.

So we can't help but wonder what other actresses would be well-suited to play Carrie in the '80s. Emma Roberts? Dakota Fanning? My personal vote goes to Lea Michele (as she may or may not be out of a job, anyway) who has proved time and time again on Glee that she can play both funny and dramatic, and much like young SJP in real life, was a New York-bound Broadway baby. And, yes, I realize she's a brunette.

But, I'm curious PopWatchers, who do you think could/should play the young Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries? Which actress can match the mannerisms and wit of Sarah Jessica Parker for the part? Share in the comments section below!
