Hugh Jackman in 'Les Miserables' -- FIRST LOOK

On stage, the depiction of the crushing poverty and hardship inherent in the story of Les Misérables can only go so far. In the show’s famed concert versions, a few brown, ill-fitting costumes was often the extent of it.

But one need only take a look at Hugh Jackman’s scarred and bloody scalp as Jean Valjean in the feature film adaptation of Les Mis to glean that director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) doesn’t appear to be glossing over the grody details. Check out the full version of the image below:

A bit incongruous to see Jackman carrying a fancy coffee mug while bedecked in what appears to be Valjean’s prison rags. But what do you make of it?
