Box office update: 'The Hunger Games' tops Friday with $6.5 million, 'Stooges' beat 'Cabin' for second

Katniss and her fellow tributes aren’t ready to give up the box office throne just yet!

The Hunger Games hasn’t left first place since its March 23 debut, and judging by Friday’s box office numbers, the thriller will enjoy a fourth frame atop the chart, too. Games took in an estimated $6.5 million yesterday, putting it on pace for about $20 million this weekend.

In second place, The Three Stooges notched a surprisingly strong $5.6 million. The slapstick comedy, which is playing primarily to male audiences, may be headed to a debut weekend in the $17 million range.

The Cabin in the Woods was close behind in third place with $5.5 million, but given the frontloaded nature of horror flicks, it may only scare up about $13 million by Sunday night.

Rounding out the Top 5 were American Reunion and Titanic 3D, which each grossed $3.4 million and may finish the weekend with about $11 million. Further down the chart, Guy Pearce thriller Lockout started its run with a weak $2.3 million and may have to settle for a $6.5 million frame.
