'The Avengers,' The Dark Knight': Entertainment Geekly discusses its Favorite Superhero Movies

Spiderman 2

Have you heard about this Avengers movie? Marvel’s ultra-mega superhero spin-off arrives in theaters today with good reviews, supernova buzz, and already over $200 million in foreign ticket sales. The only question is: Will it make an ungodly amount of money, or a really ungodly amount of money? Of course, Avengers is just the first volley in a blockbuster summer season packed with costumed crusaders. In a couple months, Sony will release the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man. A couple weeks later, Christopher Nolan will look to dodge the superhero-threequel curse and bring his Batman saga to a satisfying conclusion with The Dark Knight Rises. This looks like the most superhero-tastic summer since…well, ever. Or at least since the 2008 Iron Man/Dark Knight bumper crop. No, last year doesn’t count. Because Green Lantern, that’s why.

Before the superhero deluge hits, though, we’d like you to join us for a look back. On this week’s Entertainment Geekly podcast, Jeff Jensen and I list our top three superhero movies. Some of our choices aren’t surprising. Some of them are. At least one of them is indefensible. Other topics of discussion include the unexpected futurification of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and the next phase of DC’s “New 52” plan.

Listen below, or check us out in the iTunes store. Give us your top three superhero movies in the comment boards, especially if you’re one of those people who has a passionate argument for why Ang Lee’s Hulk is secretly a masterpiece. (You know who you are, you glorious weirdo.) And be sure to tweet at us if you’re feeling sassy: @EWDocJensen and @EWDarrenFranich.
