Jimi Hendrix’s estate has a message for Andre 3000’s Hendrix movie: not so fast!

The estate has expressed their disapproval for the Hendrix biopic All Is by My Side, which had cast the OutKast rapper to play the lead role and had reportedly begun preproduction this week.

The movie hoped to depict Hendrix’s time in England circa 1966-67, around the time when he recorded his guitar epic Are You Experienced? Yet the guitar god’s estate has other ideas, as their following statement indicates:

“Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog, has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”

Ouch! So, looks like we might have to wait another eight years until this production can move forward again. We’ll get back to you in 2020!
