Jane Fonda, 'Iron Man 3' has new villain, and more in Casting Net

James Badge Dale (HBO’s The Pacific, AMC’s Rubicon) has signed onto Iron Man 3 to play villain Eric Savin, who in Marvel Comics lore becomes a cyborg called Coldblood. Apparently, killer cyborgs aren’t subtle. [Deadline]

Morgan Freeman is in talks to join the increasingly impressive cast of the older-men-on-a-bachelor-party-bender comedy Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas and Robert DeNiro. [Deadline]

Helena Bonham Carter and Kathy Bates have joined The Young and Prodigious Spivet, an English-language coming-of-age road film from Amélie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, about a precocious 12-year-old boy (Kyle Catlett) en route from Montana to the Smithsonian Museum. Jeunet cowrote the script with regular collaborator Guillaume Laurant. [Variety]

Larry David is in talks to star and Greg Mottola (Superbad) is in talks to direct an untitled comedy. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm scribes Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer penned the screenplay, but the film will reportedly be partially improvised. [THR]

Anthony Hopkins and Annette Bening will star in Hemingway & Fuentes, as the title author and his third wife, Mary Walsh Hemingway. Director Andy Garcia will also play Gregorio Fuentes, the first mate on Hemingway’s boat while the Nobel Prize winner was living in Cuba in the 1950s. [Deadline]

Kate Beckinsale, Nick Nolte, and James Cromwell will star in The Trials of Cate McCall, about an ex-prosecutor (Beckinsale) trying to get her life back together after falling into drug addiction. Karen Moncrieff (Blue Car) will direct from her script. [Deadline]

Jane Fonda has joined Better Living Through Chemistry, a comedy about a fuddy-duddy pharmacist (Sam Rockwell) who enters into an affair. Olivia Wilds, Michelle Monaghan, and Ray Liotta costar, with screenwriters Geoff Moore and David Posamentier directing. [Deadline]

Joel Edgerton (Warrior) will write and star in Felony, about a police officer who lies about a car accident involving a bicyclist. Matthew Saville (Noise) will direct. [THR]

John Cusack is in talks to join the intriguing Elijah Wood thriller Grand Piano. Eugenio Mira is directing. [Variety]

New Girl‘s Max Greenfield will star opposite Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler in the meta romantic comedy They Came Together, as Rudd’s younger brother. David Wain is directing the script he cowrote with Michael Showalter. [Deadline]
