Ann Curry leaves 'Today'

It’s official: Ann Curry is leaving the Today show.

After a week of speculation, Curry herself confirmed the news to viewers this morning on the Today show. Surrounded by Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and Natalie Morales, Curry’s voice broke when she shared the news. “This is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host of Today,” Curry shared. “I will still be a part of the Today show family.”

Thanking the viewers, she said, “You are the real Today show family. You are why I’ve ventured into dangerous places, interviewed dictators and jumped off of planes… I’ve loved you and wanted to give you the world. And I still do.”

Curry announced she’ll be staying with NBC in a new role that will have her heading up a team of journalists covering stories all over the world.

Tearing up again, she said, “For all of you that saw me as a groundbreaker, I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line, but man I did try.”
