Jennifer Beals and Troian Bellisario in 'Lauren' trailer

The pop culture-obsessed out there know Jennifer Beals as Alex from Flashdance and Troian Bellisario as Spencer from ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars. But are you ready to see the pair enlist in a couple of totally different roles? Beals and Bellisario do just that by joining the army in their new WIGS web series, Lauren.

EW has an exclusive first look at the series below via its official trailer, which will debut on the YouTube channel after episode 11 of Christine beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Lauren trailer drips with drama — and includes a heavy dose of tension between Beals' commanding officer character and Bellisario's soldier character. "Your report is well-written," Beals barks at Bellisario shortly into the preview. "You could be a writer. You could almost write fiction. Do you understand me?"

But something is amiss between the major and her report — and it's not savory. "Major, is there something reason you can't use the word 'rape'?" Bellisario asks, foreshadowing what the series is about. The official description from WIGS says that Beals' skeptical character is forced to "choose between what she loves and what is right."

Another WIGS series, Blue, featured Julia Stiles playing the role of an escort.

Lauren premieres on WIGS Aug. 13 with a three-episode run written by Jay Rodan and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men). WIGS, which launched in May 2012, is currently the No. 1 scripted channel on YouTube and features series, short films, and documentaries with female leads. It's basically a bite-sized web version of, say, Lifetime.
