Simon Cowell unveils new headphones

Watch out Dr. Dre — this town’s not big enough for two sets of celebrity-backed high-end headphones.

Simon Cowell has announced a new line of headphones that will be distributed by Syco Entertainment, his business collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment. The X Headphones will cost $299 and should compete with Dr. Dre’s stupidly successful Beats by Dre.

In a statement, The X Factor creator and judge flexed his signature humility: “I simply wanted something better than what is in the market today. I’ve tried all of them, literally every single one. Sony and I set out to create the best headphone in the world. We are absolutely blown away by these. With the X headphones, it’s like being in the recording studio when the records are made. The sound is that clear.”

The new season of The X Factor will feature the headphones in various episodes as the official headphone partner.

Alright PopWatchers, it’s time to decide: X Headphones or Beats by Dre? Dre’s got my vote (come on, the man produced “Nothin’ but a G Thang“), but Cowell’s got some ridiculous TV ratings, and anyone brave enough to sport that haircut on national television is probably worth taking note of.
