Sofia Vergara wears clothes from her Kmart line on 'Modern Family'

Who knew a baby bump was prime real estate for product placement?

Though Gloria (played by Sofia Vergara) struggled with deciding how she’d break the news of the bun in her oven on last night’s season premiere of Modern Family, she looked quite comfortable in a stretchy print top from the actress’ own Sofia by Sofia Vergara line.

At a preview of her latest collection in New York City today, Vergara said that Modern Family viewers will also see accessories, bedding and more items from her eponymous label on the show this season.

“Most of the ideas for Gloria’s style are [mine],” the actress explained. “I kind of created the way Gloria dressed. Everybody loved it, when we started the show everybody was like ‘oh my god Gloria dresses fantastic!’ and so I started to bring to the collection the same ideas that I was bringing to Gloria’s wardrobe.”

It was also Vergara’s idea to work merchandise from the Kmart collection — which launched in 2011 — into Gloria’s storyline now that she’s with child. “The bigger the belly gets, most of these blouses I’ve been using for her, they stretch!” she explained.

In an episode airing October 10, Gloria carries a cherry red purse from the line.

Gloria and Jay will soon begin to incorporate pieces from the Sofia by Sofia Vergara Home collection into their decor. “I took two [bedding] sets for the show so they’re going to dress Gloria’s bedroom with it,” Vergara said. “Even if you can’t afford to remodel, just by changing your bed and making it a nice color, a nice texture, it changes. It makes you feel like you spent a million dollars.”
