One Direction play acoustic performance

One Direction has had a pretty big week in the United States. They had their huge concert at Madison Square Garden, they performed at the Z100 Jingle Ball show last night, and even have had their share of tabloid drama when Harry Styles performed some late-night karaoke with Taylor Swift.

Yesterday afternoon, the boys swung by SiriusXM headquarters to tape an “Artist Confidential” acoustic performance and Q&A that will air later this month. My colleague Nuzhat Naoreen and I attended the taping and we were ready for some grade-A freaking out from the contest-winning teen girls who were in attendance. I wanted to see overwhelmed tears, dangit. Unfortunately for us and fortunately for these teens (average age of the 25 girls: about 13) the emotions never quite overflowed. Perhaps they were shell-shocked to be so close to their idols, but we saw a wider range of emotions from the parents sitting next to us (embarrassment, amusement, boredom) than from the teens who had presumably skipped school to log some face time with Styles and Co.

The show alternated between recorded versions of hits such as “One Thing” and “Live While We’re Young” with in-studio live performances. While I’m no longer a teen, I’ll admit to swooning just a little when the guys sang acoustic versions of their hits “Little Things,” “More Than This,” and “What Makes You Beautiful.”

Check out the band’s performance of “Little Things” below:

During the Q&A portion, the guys were their typical joke-y selves, explaining they have an ongoing prank with each other where they randomly yell “cheeseburger” throughout their interviews, progressively getting louder and louder. For Louis Tomlinson especially, shouting this midway through other One Direction-ers’ answers seemed like his personal highlight. Right when the chat started, the SiriusXM hosts asked about the guys’ personal lives, wondering what their favorite first-date activity was. They then followed up with Styles to see if his favorite was karaoke. (He just kind of laughed it off and didn’t say anything about his outing with Swift). The talk also touched on their diet — lots of pizza, CHEESEBURGERS! and McDonalds chicken nuggets for these teenage guys — as well as a discussion on schoolwork (lame!) and dance moves (awesome!).

“Artist Confidential” with One Direction airs on SiriusXM Hits 1 at 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 25.
