In addition to making Oscar history, Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis had a major fashion first at last night’s Academy Awards.

The 9-year-old Best Actress nominee was the first to wear a dress from Giorgio Armani’s new Armani Junior collection.

Armani worked with the young actress to design two options, with Wallis choosing a midnight blue gown encrusted with iridescent black, navy and silver jewels. “I liked it because it was sparkly and fluffy,” Wallis told reporters of her gown, which she accessorized with blue ballet flats, drop earrings, a crystal headband, and one of her signature puppy purses.

And though Wallis’ princess gown was super-fancy, it wasn’t too fussy. The actress celebrated her big night — and her later-than-usual bedtime — by hitting the dance floor at the Fox Searchlight after-party.
