Even though Tina Fey says her daughter looks up to Quvenzhané Wallis, don’t expect the 7-year-old Alice to appear on the big screen any time soon. Fey was at a screening of her new movie Admission this morning when she was asked what she tells her kids (Alice and Penelope, 1) about living their dreams.

With my kids so far it seems to be about holding them back. They see this kind of exciting life,” she told the audience at The Moms Mamarazzi event in NYC. It turns out that when Alice, who has had a cameo on 30 Rock, found out about Best Actress nominee Wallis, she immediately thought of the implications for herself. “My daughter lost her mind on Oscar night when we were watching. She was like ‘There’s a 9-year-old?! There’s a 9-year-old?!’ I was like, ‘Let it go.'”

Fey tried to temper that enthusiasm even more: “I made her write up a poll for everyone who came to our Oscar party [to vote on] ‘Should Alice be allowed to be in movies?’ And I was the only person that said no. She was like, ‘See!’ I was like ‘Unfortunately for you, I am the only vote that counts.'”
