Is Teen Beach Movie the next High School Musical?

We’ll find out July 19, when Disney Channel’s next big family film — formerly known as Teen Beach Musical — premieres at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The sunny tale centers on Brady and McKenzie (Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell), a pair of surfers who find themselves mysteriously transported into an old-fashioned, Beach Blanket Bingo-esque movie. As they search for a way out of this all-singing, all-dancing ’60s world, they discover that they’ve accidentally changed the movie’s storyline (à la Pleasantville) — a mistake which could alter their lives forever.

The film features 12 songs, as well as choreography by So You Think You Can Dance‘s Chris Scott and Flashdance director Jeffrey Hornaday (who also helmed Teen Beach). A trailer will debut on Disney.com on Friday, March 15; the soundtrack will be released July 16, just a few days before the film’s premiere.

Think Brady and McKenzie will be able to hold a candle to Troy and Gabriella?
