Benedict Cumberbatch says 'Sherlock' season 4 is a go

With the BBC’s Sherlock set to get back into production (finally!) there may be more good news on the horizon for fans of TV’s best crime drama.

Star Benedict Cumberbatch told an interviewer there will be a fourth season of Sherlock. “We’ve agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that,” the actor told RadioTimes. “All I know at the moment is I’m doing these three [episodes for Series 3] and another three [episodes for Series 4].”

The actor even hinted that the show could go beyond a fourth season, though noted it depends on his availability, and the schedules of co-star Martin Freeman and co-creator Steven Moffat. “I’d love to keep it going,” he says.

With Cumberbatch and Martin getting major exposure to U.S. audiences (the former with his upcoming villainous turn in Star Trek Into Darkness and the latter with role as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy), some Sherlock fans worried the stars would no longer continue on the relatively humble TV drama — especially after the start of the third season was briefly delayed. But it sounds like Cumberbatch is committed to making it work. Here in the states, PBS will air the third season of Sherlock sometime after the series has its fall/winter BBC premiere.
