The Angels’ Share
NOT RATED, 1 HR., 46 MINS.

Ken Loach’s spiky neorealist version of a feel-good fable. It’s about a vicious Glasgow punk (Paul Brannigan) who becomes a dad, and still doesn’t reform — not until he discovers the joys of being a whiskey connoisseur. That’s when he leads his ratty mates in the ultimate Scottish heist: stealing priceless whiskey out of a cask. It’s all a bit facile, but hard to resist. B (Also available on VOD)— Owen Gleiberman

Antiviral
NOT RATED, 1 HR., 49 MINS.

The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree in Brandon Cronenberg’s feature directorial debut. Like his father, David, Cronenberg fils is fascinated by blood, flesh, and other forms of petri-dish ickiness, spinning a bizarre sci-fi thriller about a young employee (Caleb Landry Jones) at a clinic where people pay to commune with celebrities by getting injected with their viruses. Very clever…and very cold. B- (Also available on VOD)— Chris Nashawaty

The Company You Keep
R, 2 HRS., 1 MIN.

Robert Redford plays an ex-member of the Weather Underground living undercover in this overly restrained meditation on lost boomer dreams. C+Owen Gleiberman

The Croods
PG, 1 HR., 36 MINS.

A young cavegirl and her embarrassing family join up with a more evolved cavedude. C+Keith Staskiewicz

Disconnect
R, 1 HR., 55 MINS.

Technology can bring us together. But all of that connectedness comes at a price. That’s the message of Henry-Alex Rubin’s timely and often poignant drama about a high school misfit (Jonah Bobo) who’s cyberbullied, a couple (Paula Patton and Alexander Skarsgård) who are victims of identity theft, and a teenage runaway (Max Thieriot) hustling in an online-sex chat room. It’s enough to make you want to unplug everything and go live in a yurt. BChris Nashawaty

Evil Dead
R, 1 HR., 30 MINS.

Fans of Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic can relax. This gutsy remake is not only made with affection for the cult-gem original, it’s also the bloodiest, goriest, slapstickiest horror flick since, well, The Evil Dead. B+Chris Nashawaty

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
PG-13, 1 HR., 50 MINS.

When most of the G.I. Joes get killed, it’s up to Dwayne Johnson to save the day. B-Owen Gleiberman

In the House
R, 1 HR., 45 MINS.

A psychological bookend to his 2003 art-house hit, Swimming Pool, François Ozon’s latest French-language thriller traces the relationship between a manipulative high school student (Ernst Umhauer) and his weary writing professor (Fabrice Luchini). The boy pens essays about his infatuation with a male classmate, gets his teacher panting for each new installment, and then begins to dangerously blur the line between fantasy and reality. Ozon makes every twist — and there are plenty of them — a kinky, unexpected delight. BChris Nashawaty

It’s a Disaster
R, 1 HR., 28 MINS.

Okay, so it’s not quite a disaster, but this slight comedy isn’t as funny as it thinks it is, either. Four self-absorbed couples (including David Cross and Julia Stiles) meet for brunch and discuss their hipster neuroses before a terrorist attack puts them under quarantine. It feels like a so-so Portlandia sketch stretched out to feature length. C (Also available on VOD) —Chris Nashawaty

No Place on Earth
PG-13, 1 HR., 23 MINS.

While exploring caves in Ukraine, Chris Nicola found a remarkable untold story of WWII: how dozens of Jews hid from the Nazis for 511 days underground. B+Chris Nashawaty

Olympus Has Fallen
R, 1 HR., 59 MINS.

Antoine Fuqua’s brutally rote Die Hard-in-the- White-House thriller. COwen Gleiberman

Room 237
NOT RATED, 1 HR., 43 MINS.

This amazing documentary consists entirely of superfans of The Shining talking about the film’s hidden clues and secret themes. A (Also available on VOD) —Owen Gleiberman

Trance
R, 1 HR., 44 MINS.

In Danny Boyle’s high-brainiac art-world thriller, an auction-house official (James McAvoy) helps steal a painting, then forgets where he hid it. The movie doesn’t so much bend your mind as stick it in the Cuisinart. D+Owen Gleiberman

Tyler Perry’s Temptation
PG-13, 1 HR., 51 MINS.

There’s nothing subtle about Tyler Perry’s latest finger-wagging sermon on fidelity. Jurnee Smollett-Bell stars as a married relationship counselor lured into sin by a smooth mogul. C+Chris Nashawaty
