Marvel released five new images from the set of Thor: The Dark World today. We already knew that the film will focus largely on the fantastical space-fantasy realms, marking a nice departure from the first film, which was mostly set in the fantastical realm of New Mexico. The images provide an intriguing look at the new film’s baddies. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Here we see Thor, the Prince of Asgard, mid-battle alongside the Lady Sif. Thor is once again played by Chris Hemsworth, who is honestly probably only half-god, or at least definitely descended from some kind of race of giants.

And here we see Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves. Malekith is holding a weapon which appears to be taken from one of the later levels of Halo, when you start to get those really powerful weapons that run out of ammo almost immediately.

Prince Hemsworth gets ready for his close-up. Fun fact: As a method acting exercise, Hemsworth actually built himself a boomerang hammer. That’s not true.

Hemsworth consults with Alan Taylor, the director of The Dark World. Taylor was the director of some of the flat-out best hours of dramatic television of the last 10 years, including various episodes of Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and Rome, not to mention the pilot of Mad Men.

Look out, Thor! Elf-troopers! The minions of Malekith are wearing masks that make them look like No-Face from Spirited Away, except with more nose and more horns.
