Demi Lovato's dad dies

Demi Lovato’s estranged father, Patrick Lovato, has died, according to tweets from Lovato’s mom and sister.

Patrick divorced Demi’s mom, Dianna De La Garza, in 1994, and Lovato cut off ties with her dad — who frequently spoke to the media about his famous daughter — in 2007. Lovato is currently filming the fall season of The X Factor, and Simon Cowell reached out to his fellow judge through Twitter:

There’s no word yet on cause of death, but Patrick Lovato told Radar Online in 2011 that he was battling cancer.
