Casting Net: Julianne Moore eyed for 'Mockingjay'

• According to Deadline, Julianne Moore may be among the top candidates for the role of President Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, the third and fourth films in the series. A rep from Lionsgate had no comment. [Deadline]

• Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the unfinished book Mean Business on North Ganson Street as a vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, who starred together in Django Unchained. The story finds a disgraced detective (DiCaprio) sent to a fictional Missouri town (Victory) to investigate its rise in crime. There, he teams up with another detective played by Foxx as things begin to escalate and someone starts killing off the entire police force. Author S. Craig Zahler will adapt the script for the big screen. [Deadline]

• Ryan Reynolds is set to join Mississippi Grind about a man in debt who teams up with a gambling addict to try to make back what he owes. From writing and directing team Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, It’s Kind of a Funny Story), Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines) will also star. Reynolds can be seen next in R.I.P.D (out July 19). He also voices the part of Turbo in the DreamWorks Animation feature (out July 17). [Deadline]

• Mark Wahlberg is attached to star in an adaptation of American Desperado: My Life — from Mafia Soldier to Cocaine Cowboy to Secret Government Asset, with Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) attached to direct. The book is based on a series of conversations that Generation Kill author Evan Wright had with Jon Roberts, a notorious criminal famously depicted in the documentary Cocaine Cowboys. William Monahan, who won an Oscar for adapting The Departed, wrote the script for Paramount. Berg and Walhlberg recently worked together on the Afghanistan war drama Lone Survivor, which should be released sometime in 2014. [Deadline]

• Christopher Plummer, who won an Oscar for his work in Beginners, has taken over a key role in Dan Fogelman’s Imagine, about an aging, hard-partying musician (Al Pacino) who discovers a letter from a young John Lennon. Michael Caine (The Dark Knight Rises) had originally signed on to play the part of Pacino’s manager but had to drop out due to scheduling, leaving room for Plummer to step in before production begins in July. [Deadline]

• Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby) is in talks to star in Jeff Nichols‘ next film. The still-untitled project re-teams the Mud director with his Take Shelter star Michael Shannon. The report says that the film is being described as a “present-day sci-fi chase film.” [Variety]

• Garcelle Beauvais, who plays the first lady in White House Down, has signed on to star in the independent film Loose, a coming-of-age story about a young girl. Beauvais will play her alcoholic, troubled mother. [The Wrap]

•Sucker Punch‘s Emily Browning is set to star opposite Luke Grimes (Taken 2) in a Bonnie & Clyde-style adventure flick, The Shangri-La Suite, about two kids in love who break out of a mental hospital and decide to head to Los Angeles. This will be director Eddie O’Keefe’s first feature. [The Wrap]
