Casting Net: Rosemarie DeWitt, Michael Pena, and more

* Rosemarie DeWitt is in negotiations to star opposite Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) in Kill The Messenger, based on the true story of journalist Gary Webb and his reporting around the CIA's involvement in cocaine trafficking. DeWitt, who played Charmaine Craine in United States of Tara, is becoming more of a household name thanks to memorable roles in films such as Your Sister's Sister and Rachel Getting Married. She can be seen next in Lynn Shelton's Touchy Feely with Scoot McNairy and Ellen Page. [Deadline]

* Michael Peña (Gangster Squad), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), and Dougray Scott (Hemlock Grove) have all signed on to star in The Vatican Tapes, a "demonic possession drama." Mark Neveldine (Crank) will direct the film about a young woman's (played by Olivia Dudley) possession, and the men of the church who try to bring her back from the brink. [Variety]

* Jennifer Ehle, who recently appeared in Zero Dark Thirty, has joined the cast of Mike Binder's Black and White. The film will focus around the relationship between Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer, who are trying to raise their biracial grandchild. Ehle will play the role of Costner's late wife, who will appear in flashbacks and dreams. [The Wrap]

* Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) and Wyatt Russell (This is 40, also, son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn) are in final negotiations to join the independent film Turk, about former Boston Bruins players Derek Sanderson and Bobby Orr. Ed Burns (Newlyweds) has signed on to produce and will also play the part of Sanderson's father. Doug Atchison (Akeelah and the Bee) is set to direct. [The Wrap]

* Terence Stamp (Valkyrie) has joined the cast of Tim Burton's Margaret and Walter Keane pic Big Eyes to play New York Times art critic John Canaday. In the statement announcing the news, Harvey Weinstein said: "Besides the fact that Terence is one of the most brilliant actors of our time and a likely best actor Oscar nominee for Unfinished Song, he dated Julie Christie and Brigitte Bardot. Not casting him for that reason alone would be a mortal sin!"

* Law & Order franchise regular Peter McRobbie (who plays Judge Walter Bradley) has joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, based on the Thomas Pynchon novel, as the loan shark Adrian Prussia — a part that people had been speculating would go to Sean Penn. [Deadline]
