Amanda Bynes hospitalized on involuntary psychiatric hold

Amanda Bynes was hospitalized Monday night on an involuntary psychiatric hold after reportedly setting a small fire in a driveway in Thousand Oaks, Calif., People reports. (A call to the sheriff’s office by EW was not returned.)

“When we receive a call on something like this and someone is behaving unusually in front of a deputy trained to evaluate the possibility of needing a mental health evaluation, we can bring them to a mental health facility for up to 72 hours,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Captain Don Aguilar told People. “If someone is having a behavioral issue and they can’t care for themselves, then we step in and we try to give them assistance they need to get them going in the right direction.”

The involuntary stay reportedly is a result of her holding a red gasoline can and allegedly starting a fire in a driveway in Thousand Oaks, according to TMZ. Known as a “5150 hold,” which is where someone is considered a danger to themselves or others, it’s the same thing that happened to Britney Spears in 2008.
