Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow miss making 'Friends'

Friends: they’re just like us!

Okay, so the unwashed masses usually don’t spend their Friday nights guest-hosting Piers Morgan Tonight. But they do spend their time wishing that modern history’s greatest sitcom — yeah, Seinfeld partisans, I said it — had never gone off the air.

Matthew Perry filled in for Morgan late last week, giving him a golden opportunity to reunite with guest and ex-costar Lisa Kudrow. Though Kudrow’s long since moved on to another series — Web Therapy, which began its third season on Showtime last week — the conversation naturally turned to their shared history, and, more specifically, their nostalgia for the Friends era.

“I find myself sort of reminiscing about how much fun the show was,” Perry said at one point. “If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to 2004 and not have stopped, you know?”

Evidently, Kudrow feels the same way. “Oh, I would keep going,” she said in response — adding, “There would have come a time anyway when someone would have said we’ve had enough, but why not have fun until they do?”

Sigh! On a less bittersweet note, CNN producers also asked Kudrow and Perry to pick their favorite moment from the show. They both ended up choosing the very same scene: Phoebe’s fake seduction of Chandler, a hilarious game of one-upmanship that leads to one of the series’ sweetest revelations. (“I thought you guys were doin’ it! I didn’t know you were in love!”)

Friends went off the air in May 2004, meaning it’s been nearly a decade since we’ve had a new episode. And if that doesn’t make you feel old, this will: Ben Geller would be 18 years old today. Triplets Frank Jr. Jr., Leslie, and Chandler Buffay would be 15. Emma Green[-Geller] would be 11. And Jack and Erica Bing, the twins Monica and Chandler adopted in the finale, would be 9.

Man, I wish we could just stick the Book of Life in the freezer.
