The executive producers of The Good Wife today promised a “sh–storm” when the Julianna Margulies drama returns for its fifth season Sept. 29.

Robert and Michelle King told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that, to prep for the new season, they interviewed attorneys who left their firms — a key storyline for Alicia Florrick (Margulies), who was seen in the season finale telling Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry) that she was ready to bolt Lockhart-Gardner.

“It’s a year about civil war,” Robert King said. “There are so many stories to tell. It’s very explosive. It’s more about our team and how they all face each other … we will whet the audience with the difficulty of betraying a firm. It’s a sh–storm. We want [to show] the quiet before the sh–storm … we’ll get to the civil war fairly quickly.”

As for guest stars, Carrie Preston and Gary Cole will reprise their roles as Elsbeth Tascioni and Kurt McVeigh, while Melissa George (Grey’s Anatomy) will join Peter Florrick’s (Chris Noth) office — and possibly tempt the new governor. Jeffrey Tambor and Ben Rappaport will also join the ensemble, while the Kings are keeping their fingers crossed that Michael J. Fox will return, as well. “We adore the character and the actor,” says Michelle King. “He has his own series so it depends on timing and ability.”

The Kings, who were joined on the dais with Margulies, nodded in agreement when the actress referred to the ongoing Anthony Weiner scandal as the “gift that keeps giving.” It also makes the drama more relevant than ever: when asked if she could relate to Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin, Margulies had this to say: “She had the exact look that I tried to capture in the pilot. It’s a soulless look. She was looking down, her body was empty and her soul was some place else. She was just going through the motions. I have complete compassion and empathy for her.”Robert King also promised a “blowout episode” for the 10th week of the new season, which will mark the drama’s 100th episode.
